There are more than 20,000 opportunity youth in the Columbus Region, and the time for narrowing the gap between the need for services and federal and local policies to support communities in reconnecting these young people, is now. Their lack of opportunity is our opportunity to step up.

In the 2014-2015 S.O.A.R. hire! Annual Youth Report, we will cover the collaborative, local solutions that are already in place and being developed to support youth training and employment. We will look at the Career Pathway Model and how the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) will improve the delivery of services. And, we will highlight the success we have had so far and the still looming needs and challenges presented in the unique situation of the young job seeker. Implementing a work-first model will be key to helping central Ohio’s teens and young adults transition from school to work and ultimately self-sufficiency.
