Restored Citizens Success Stories

Christopher Babbs came to COWIC in April 2014. A restored citizen (ex-offender), Babbs applied to and was selected to participate in Restoration Academy, a community partnership that helps ex-offenders gain self-sustaining employment. Babbs is a veteran and holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He completed the 6-month, paid internship that is the cornerstone of the program and is currently working for the City of Columbus as a Computer Operator. Babbs loves his current job and is very grateful for Restoration Academy.

Teila Schuttinger came to the OhioMeansJobs Columbus-Franklin County center in March 2015, as a restored citizen (ex-offender) looking to obtain gainful employment. She completed all of the Empowerment Work Ready Workshops offered and with the help of her Career Planner, developed a resume and started an aggressive job search. After attending job fairs and applying for positions online, she finally obtained employment with Liberty Mortgage Company in a supervisor capacity earning $12.00 an hour with incentives. Teila’s commitment is a testament to her successful employment. Teila is now working with COWIC to identify other potential new hires to fill employment opportunities at her new company.
