Our Essential Skills Workshop series helps job seekers build basic computer skills, resume development, and interviewing. We also have workshops on team building, money management, and self employment.

Shantel E. Grigsby facilitates the Basic Computer Literacy workshop on Monday mornings and the Resume Writing workshop on Tuesday mornings. She is the President of Government Marketing Solutions, a government marketing consultant firm, where she specializes in helping companies do business with the federal and state governments. Shantel’s expertise includes 25 years of marketing and procurement experience in the federal, state and local contracting arena. Certified as a Procurement Specialist by the State of Ohio, Shantel is often requested to lecture at local Chambers of Commerce workshops, conferences, financial institutions and college institutions. In her extensive work with the U.S. SBA, she has helped small businesses win more than $6 billion in government contracts. Barbara Ann Thompson instructs Resume Writing on Friday mornings and the Self-Employment workshop on Tuesday evenings. She is an award-winning entrepreneur who knows not only how to grow a business and market it, but also prides herself in being able to teach others how to do the same. Barbara has received numerous awards for her business including the Increase CDC and Huntington Bank Professional Micro-Business of the Year Award, and Woman of the Year award from Professional Business Women. Barbara believes that there is enough business out there for everyone and therefore believes she should share what she knows with others to help them along the way. Iris Ann Cooper facilitates the Self-Employment workshop on Tuesday evenings and the Interviewing workshops every Wednesday morning. A founder of multi-million dollar food marketing company Glory Foods, Inc., Iris is recognized nationally as an expert in business strategy and branding, having coached many startup enterprises to sustainability. She worked in the financial service arena for over twenty-five years and has also held leadership positions in economic development, community service, communication, government, and education. Iris is the owner of “JustAskIris!” an entrepreneurial coaching firm and the former Director of the Ohio Division of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, featuring the Small Business Development Centers, under Governor Ted Strickland. As director, Iris led the state from 29th worst place for small businesses in 2007 to the 9th best in the nation, and 1st in the Midwest in four years. Sean Ross, Ph.D., facilitates the Basic Computer Literacy workshop every Wednesday morning. As a central Ohio educator and business owner, Sean brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job seekers in his class. He is a passionate instructor who has an innate ability to connect with each and every participant by “meeting them where they are.” Sean believes in the individual leadership capacity that each person brings to the workshops and works to empower them to aspire to do more, see more, and achieve more. He is a dynamic presenter, a certified coach, published author and a certified educator who welcomes the opportunity to learn and grow each and every day. When Sean is not delivering the Basic Computer Literacy Workshop, he is likely tending to his duties as the COO of Professional Consulting Associates, LLC, where he is responsible for the daily operations and overall well-being of the company.
