In-Demand Sector Partnerships
At COWIC, we have identified in-demand industries in central Ohio where our employer partners are looking for motivated and highly-skilled candidates. Working closely with businesses and professionals from these industries, our goal is to identify highly-skilled and motivated job seekers and create custom training, certification and business incentives to add to the growth in these fields.
High-growth, in-demand industries:
- Information Technology (IT)
COWIC is a recipient of the new Sector Partnerships National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. The goal is to assist 40 dislocated workers over the next two years in the IT field in getting additional training and certification, and re-entering the job force. Youth Employment Challenge
The Columbus Region has more than 20,000 “opportunity youth” or teens and young adults aged 16-24 who are out of school and unemployed. The City of Columbus, along with community partners and businesses are working to identify more employment opportunities to help these young people find full-time, part-time or seasonal employment. Financial Hiring Initiatives
The On-The-Job Training program aids employers in defraying up to 90% of the wages paid to employees during a training period. Learn more about that program here.
Rapid Response to Lay-offs
Once notified of a closure or lay-off in Central Ohio, our Rapid Response Team will go to the closing business offering information about unemployment compensation, resume development and job search assistance to make the transition less stressful.For more information, contact Andrew Oocumma at [email protected].
