2016 S.O.A.R.hire! Summer Employment application has closed!

The online application period for the 2016 S.O.A.R.hire! Summer program has closed. Thanks for applying! We look forward to the start of internships in June.

S.O.A.R.hire! Summer is a collaboration between Franklin County, the City of Columbus, COWIC/OhioMeansJobs, community organizations and businesses throughout Columbus and Franklin County. The program places youth and young adults between the ages 14 and 24 in six- to- eight- week paid summer work experiences with private-sector, businesses, nonprofits, and City and County government agencies. Participants will receive work readiness and financial literacy training before placement with local employers at an hourly wage of $10.

“Through S.O.A.R.hire! Summer, our future workforce will not only earn a paycheck, but also gain essential skills like how to manage conflict  in the work place, show up on time, and  dress appropriately for the job,” said COWIC  Executive Director Frankie Nowlin.  “Preparing our youth for the world of work is not just good for them, but it will have a long term effect on our entire community and local economy.”

Young adults ages 18-24 who do not qualify for the public side of the program and have at least one year of work experience, may apply for the S.O.A.R.hire! Summer Academy. S.O.A.R.hire! Academy offers young adults an opportunity to explore various careers through a company-paid job experience, giving them the skills, confidence, and experience needed to gain an advantage in obtaining future employment.
